A Call to Worship
Reign of Christ the King Year C 2010
Psalm 46

The Lord God is our Refuge and Strength
an ever-present help in times of trouble.
In silent awe, we revere the Known and Unknown God.

The Lord God is honourable, almighty,
and faithfully keeps all God’s own promises.
In silent awe, we honour the Known and Unknown God.

The Lord God of heaven and earth is with us,
renewing, supporting and sustaining us.
In silent awe, we come to worship the Known
and Unknown God, offering our praises
to the Immoveable and Unchanging God. Amen.

Prayers of Trust and Praise
Reign of Christ the King Year C 2010
Psalm 46

O Lord our God, in confidence in faith, hope and trust
we come to worship you. You are the One we rely on,
no matter what are our circumstances, or our situations.
#Living God, you are with us as our Refuge and Strength,
our Help and Confidence in all the circumstances of life.
In awe, and in the silence, we come in worship before you.

Trustworthy God, we are shaken when familiar things
collapse around us, when the physical world around us
seems to be collapsing because of floods, fire, violent storms,
famine or earthquake, all of which have their own special affects
on people and their wellbeing, and even their future existence.
#Living God, you are Mystery and Majesty within the chaos
turmoil and confusion of the earth’s evolving restructuring.
In awe, and in the silence, we come in worship before you.

Faithful God, we are vulnerable when trusted relationships
collapse; or when there is a physical, mental, spiritual or
moral breakdown, and when those things we take for granted
in relationships become fragile, and so easily destroyed.
#Living God, you are with us as our Security and Stay,
our Comfort in times of personal confusion and pain.
In awe, and in the silence, we come to honour you.

Dependable God, there are times when we are shaken by
conflict, caused by the violent nature and ways of humanity.
Wars are declared on small or large scale which affects
national life, causing its victims fear, chaos and fragmentation.
#Living God, you are with us as our Peace-loving God, and
you are able of right wrongs and to bring peace with justice.
In awe, and in the silence, we come to revere you.

Great God of Shalom, you are able to restore and renew
all that is shattered; all that is barren; all that is desolate;
and all that is feared, whether it is real or imagined.
#Living God, you are with us as our Listening God,
ready to hear all our concerns and uncertainties.
In awe, and in the silence, we come to pay our tribute to you.

Awesome God, we bow in silence before your majesty,
your love and your mercy. You are with us in this time
of worship, praise and joy. You are with us - because you
are our Grace-Giving God and Grace-Sustaining God.
#Living God, you are with us as our Ever-Present God,
always near to us to bless us, and to empower us.
In awe, and in the silence, we come to bow before you. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Reign of Christ the King Year C 2010
Psalm 46

The Lord God is my refuge and strength and is always there
beside me, travelling with me, especially in times of trouble.
Whatever calamity happens to me, whether it is a natural disaster—
such as bush fires, floods, violent storms, or even hunger—
I trust in God to be there beside me giving me support
and encouragement, to live with the things that overwhelm me.

Creative pause: The Lord my God is with me – always.

The Lord God is my refuge and strength and is always there
beside me, travelling with me, especially when traumatic events
occur, such as a difficult breakdown in relationships, causing great
pain for all involved. It is in times like this, that I give thanks for my
God, who stands beside me to guide me, and giving me wisdom and
courage to take the necessary reconciling steps for a peaceful resolution.

Creative pause: The Lord my God is wise and supportive.

The Lord God is my refuge and strength and is always there
beside me, inviting me to see the glory of God at work in the world;
to see the defeat of the greedy ambitions of war-mongers;
to see the enemies of peace being transformed into peace-makers;
to see the victory of goodness over the powers of vice and evil.

Creative pause: The Lord my God – is a peace-maker.

The Lord God is my refuge and strength and is always there
beside me, and in awe and reverence, I fall silent before my God.
There are no words profound enough for me to express how I feel
in the presence of my God – the God of my ancestors; the God
of all faithful people who base their lives on the worship of God.

Creative pause: The Lord my God – is awe inspiring.
