Prayers of Praise and Thankfulness
Day of Pentecost Year A 2011
Psalm 104: 24-34, 35b

Wondrous and Creating God, the works of your fingers are
never complete, they never rest; the voice that commands
the continuation of creation is never silent, but calls forth
new life, new possibilities, new energies and new delights.
Wherever we look in any direction, the wonder and majesty
of our Creating God is there for all who have eyes to see,
ears to hear, and a soul to appreciate beauty and grandeur.

In awed amazement, we offer our praise and thankfulness
to the God who through exuberant generosity, gives to
humanity this special insight into the loving heart of God,
and whose delight it is to see humanity nurturing, caring and
preserving the glories of God’s creation. Your Spirit breathes
life into all things, and touches everything with the very life
that is God; and as we care for your creation, so we draw
nearer to the heart of the Creating Spirit and Breath of God.

Creating and Sustaining God, we sing for joy at your wonders;
we meditate in the inner stillness of our minds at your glory;
trusting that our thoughts and actions are acceptable to God. Amen

A Personal Meditation
Day of Pentecost Year A 2011
Psalm 104: 24-34, 35b

Holy Breath of God, you are the Life-force that creates,
sustains and renews all of your creation; you are the
Strength of the vulnerable; the Gentleness of the mighty
and powerful; and you are the Eye that oversees all things.
Through your life-giving Spirit we live and move and have
our being, but without that Presence – we are finished.

Creative pause: The Holy Life-force is within us all.

O Lord my God, you have created so many wonderful
creatures that inhabit the varied waters in our world.
The mysteries of the deep waters are very real to me.
Nearby, there is a secluded bay where ships from around
the world load and unload their cargoes. There is also
the wild southern ocean with its pounding waves and
strong currents which bring us many strange and wonderful
water-bound creatures that stop to rest or to bear their
young. In addition, there is a large river which empties
into the sea. How mysterious are these deep waters!

Creative pause: The mysteries of the waters are symbols of larger mysteries.

Everything that is created and is being created brings joy
to the heart of the Creator. The mighty mountains that send
out their flames and molten rocks to remind us of the forces
in creation that are continually at work; the vast spaces of the
plains and deserts that spread far into the distance; and the
living witnesses – both large and small – to the diversity of
all life on this planet. These are all a part of the glory of God.

Creative pause: May God’s glory last forever.

I join with all creation to sing my praises to God; to share with
others my delight in this world God has made for us all; and
to celebrate the wonders of new life, the new beginnings, and
the new endings. Praise be to God’s holy and creative name!

Creative pause: I’ll praise my Maker while I have breath.
