A Call to Worship
Lent 2C 2010
Psalm 27

The Lord our God is the foundation
and basic structure of each of our lives.
So why should we be afraid?

We receive courage and reassurance
in the praise and worship of God wherever we are.
Why should we be afraid?

The Lord our God is the Light of our life; therefore,
there is nothing in life about which we need be fear-filled.
So why should we be afraid?
Come, let us worship and praise our God. Amen.

Prayers of Confession
Lent 2C 2010
Psalm 27

O Lord our God, we confess to you, that there are
times when we cannot find you. Are you still there
amongst the clamour and confusion of our lives?
Have you turned away from us? Never! We are quite
confident that you will always remain faithful, even if
we cannot feel or understand such amazing faithfulness.

At times, the memories of our parents bring a sense of
being rejected, and this is painful. But you, O God, will
never reject us! We rejoice in that certainty! Strengthen
each of us, so that we will not fall into the traps set for
unwary pilgrims by the dark and evil powers of this world.

Forgive us our doubts and fears O Lord our God, and help us
to be open to your teachings. So often we fail to follow the
paths you have set for our lives. Help us to understand your
ways of love and justice, and of equity and truth. Encourage us,
we pray, to see your goodness wherever we are, and give us
the wisdom and the insights to see it as your love and mercy
at work amongst people in this dark with sinful world.

Each day, as we confess our failings, we wait in anticipation
to see what God will reveal to us as part of our gracious forgiveness.
We wait to be given the gift of insight to see God’s presence always
surrounding us, with love, mercy and a fresh start in life.

Declaration of Forgiveness

The Light of God’s love and forgiveness shines
on our doubts and fears, and destroys their powers,
freeing us from the darkness of sin.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Lent 2C 2010
Psalm 27

The Lord our God is the Light of my life; therefore,
there is nothing in life about which I need be fear-filled.
God is the foundation and basic structure of my life.
I often feel overwhelmed by powers beyond my control,
but I am comforted to know that God is never overwhelmed
by natural events, or the actions of nations or peoples.

Creative pause: God is never overwhelmed.

I seek to live closer to the Lord my God in a loving and
worshipful relationship. I will worship the Lord our God
in places of peace, and at other times, within my worship
I will experience the pain anger and grief of others who are
searching for peace and reconciliation. May I be an instrument
of your peace and compassion to these hurting people.

Creative pause: Worshipping God opens us to the pain of others.

O Lord our God, are you still there amidst the clamour
and confusion of my life? Help me never to doubt you,
O Lord my God! Help me to remember that your name
is always ‘Love’, and that your love in unconditional.

Creative pause: Help me, O Lord my God!

Whenever I think about my life, there is that nagging anxiety
of the potential rejection of me by my parents. Have I been wrong
about that? Are my memories warped and damaged by pride?
One thing I do know, the Lord our God will never reject me!

Creative pause: I am God’s belovèd child.

Strengthen me, and help me to live trustingly. Save me from
falling into any traps set for unwary pilgrims, that are left by
the evil powers and dark habits of this world. I wait for the
Lord my God’s presence each day, praying that you come and
teach me your ways of love and justice, and of equity and truth.

Creative pause: Each day, I wait for God’s guidance.
