A Call to Worship
Epiphany 7A 2011
Psalm 119: 33-40

Holy God, we seek your presence to learn more about you.
We gather together in community to worship the One True God

Guiding God, you call us to follow in your paths of holiness.
In this sacred space, we come with reverent awe and joy.

Reassuring God, your ancient promises remain the same.
Teach us your holy ways and remind us of your promises. Amen.

Prayers of Thankfulness and Petition
Epiphany 7A 2011
Psalm 119: 33-40

Inspirational God, we come to you this day seeking
to learn more of your holy will and Word, and we give
thanks for the promises you have made to your faithful
people. We also want to learn more about the God whom
we worship - the God who has chosen to be involved
with humanity, the created world, and beyond into space.

Nurturing God, you have chosen to create humanity so
that we are dependent upon our Gracious God for life,
care and blessings; and upon each other for love and
forgiveness; and we give thanks for the richness and
blessings of our relationships with you our God, and with
our loved ones. May we be worthy of these blessings.

Pilgrim’s God, each day is another journey nearer to our
eternal home in you. Help us to travel well on this journey—
with our eyes fixed only on you; and our mind set on the
ways of God; so that we are not distracted by peripheral
things. We give thanks for the way we are supported on
this journey by the community of the faithful, and may we
each support, nurture and encourage our fellow pilgrims.

Trustworthy God, teach us, guide us, encourage and help
us to leave behind the things that threaten or disrupt our
life of worship, witness and service in God’s holy name.

A Personal Meditation
Epiphany 7A 2011
Psalm 119: 33-40

Generous God, you have promised that you will be a ‘Jealous God’
who expects and demands our fullest devotion and obedience—
and as a result of this mercy and blessing, you have promised to
lavish your love and affection on your faithful and obedient people.
I want to be part of those obedient people who love and serve their
Lord to the best of their ability, but I need help to accomplish this.

Creative pause: You have promised to lavish your love on me.

Teach me the way to follow your laws and rules, so that I can better
follow your commands. Help me to understand the complexity and
simplicity of the God whom I know from life’s experiences; and the
Unknown God, whom I wish to explore further and to better understand.

Creative pause: You have promised to teach me your ways.

You have promised happiness and fulfilment in life when following
the path of obedience to God. You have also promised me the strength
and courage to overcome those areas in my life that I keep secretly
locked away; and those parts of my life where I flaunt my eccentric
behaviour with pride, because they make me feel ‘different’ or ‘trendy’.

Creative pause: You have promised guide and bless me.

Gracious God, renew me with your goodness; reassure me with your
continuing presence and your merciful forgiveness; and help me to
understand and live by your commands each day. I yearn to live within
the community of the blessèd, so that I may have fullness of life with you.

Creative pause: Renew me, so that I can love and serve you.
