A Call to Worship
Christmas Day (ii) Year C 2009
Psalm 98

Sing for joy to the Lord, our God, and rejoice,
for our God have done wonderful things!
The strength of the Lord our God has triumphed,
and the Lord’s righteousness has been revealed.

In awe and amazement, we sing a new song,
proclaiming to the nations the glories of our Lord.
All peoples have been blessed by God’s revelations.

The Lord our God triumphs over chaos and disorder
because the ways of the Lord are loving and just.
Let us come to worship and sing our praises to the
Lord our God, rejoicing in God’s mighty acts. Amen.

Prayers of Praise
Christmas Day (ii) Year C 2009
Psalm 98

In praise and with reverent awe, we come in prayer
to the Almighty One - the God who is righteous,
and who deals with creation with justice, mercy and
equality. God’s people join with all creation in celebrating
their Creator with songs which praise and honour our God.

We praise and magnify the Lord our glorious God!
We shout our praises and give thanks in our prayers
for the saving work of our God, who, despite the chaos
and tumult of this world, overcomes and continues God’s work
of salvation amongst the fear-filled peoples of this world.

Creating God, We give thanks for the way each of our senses
experience God’s mighty power and creativity, through sight
and sound; through smell and taste; and through the miracle
of touch. All of nature joins with us in celebrating our creating God,
by singing a new song and shouting a new chorus of praise.

Even the mysterious depths of the waters of the earth—
those shadowy, and scary places where our imagination
creates fearful monsters - even those depths join in the
chorus of praise to God, as each creature gives recognition
to the awesome power of our majestic God, the Holy One.
Songs of praise resound through all ages to our great God. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Christmas Day (ii) Year C 2009
Psalm 98

I am singing, I am dancing in praise of my God!
My God has done - and is doing - wonderful things,
all deserving of praises, dancing and songs
of celebration – and all worthy of a world wide response!
My God, the Holy One, the Righteous One,
the Creator of all things past, present and future,
is worthy of a never-ending chorus of ‘Hallelujahs’!

Creative pause: Singing and dancing before the Lord.

The Lord my God has defeated all the foes (real or imagined)
that threaten me, all the foes that cause chaos and disunity;
all the foes that challenge and undermine my trust in God
the King - the God who saves all of God’s peoples.
The nations of the earth and the wide unknown beyond—
bow down in awe, before the Saving Lord, our God.

Creative pause: In awe of my Saving God.

I want to celebrate, I want to sing and dance, along with
all creation. I want joyful music to flow from every throat,
from every string, from every horn, from every crash of drums,
all singing the same glorious song of praise to God.
Let the grasses and trees dance; let the waves skip;
let the hills and mountains jump with joy, all because
the Lord our God rules with faithful love and justice,
and because the Lord our God is worthy of all our praise.

Creative pause: God is worthy of all praise.
